This is one of best books I have ever read on any technical topic. This book is not for people who do not want to think about what they are reading, and who are not willing to look at the illustrations and THINK. If you want a description of an engine that says "An engine mixes gas and air, ignites it, and produces power", then this is NOT the book for you.This book has many many hundreds of detailed diagrams and cut away views of real engines, clutches and transmissions. After reading this book, I totally understand crank pins, geared balancers, overhead cams, Ducati's valve system, how clutches works, brake systems and totally understand how a sequential transmission works. AWESOME.You will learn more about the technical internal nature of motorcycles in the days it takes you read this book then you could from any other source. BUT YOU WILL have to think, re-read and absorb the material.Again, if you want some glossy overview of how motorcycles work, so you can sound like you know what you are talking about, look elsewhere. If you REALLY want to understand how they work, STUDY THIS BOOK !!

I can't imagine how a book of this length, at this price, could cover a subject this complicated any better.The subject matter is as technical and broad as anything in the realm of modern consumer products could be. There is almost no way to write such a book in a way that will satisfy all the interests of everyone from total neophyte to special-interest wonk. It will always be too simple for some and over the heads of others. However, this book seems to me to cover the great middle ground which will satisfy most who are interested in the title. It really does address the entire bike in detail, and is filled with wondrous diagrams and illustrations. To fully satisfy those who need text-tagged arrows pointing to every part or explanations of every nuance would require a much larger and more expensive work, probably a series of volumes for each area.It is a very good book for the novice wanting an overview, and good reference for the more sophisticated.

Plenty of vivid photos, expert engineering commentary, a very good intro for the non-mechanic, an up to date reminder for the more experienced motorcyclist of current technology.

Good read for someone looking for intro material on Motorcycles. I have some knowledge on bikes so this book was a little light on the technology side which is what I was looking for. Good intro for its intended target audience.

Really great introduction to Motorcycle technology. I was so impressed that I purchased another book in the series (sportbike performance).

If you want to learn about multi-weight oil I suggest reading Modern Automotive Technology by Duffy. The author of Modern Motorcycle Technology got it wrong. Where was the Tech proof reader before this went to print? I have a MS in Automotive Technology, ASE Master Tech, and taught MSF courses for 8 years. I also completed 2 years of advanced motorcycle mechanics at Johnson County Community College. I started riding motorcycle in 1963 so I know a thing or two about how engines work and how they are lubricated. Otherwise the book is OK.

Very technical book with extremely poor graphics/illustrations. Very few graphics have colored illustrations or leader lines with a description to support the paragraphs. Similar to reading a map with out the topography....shortest distance from A to B is not always a straight line if you have to go over a mountain range (think Alps). Book describes specific parts of the engine and the adjacent graphic is an engine block or partial block (non-colored) and you are expected to focus on the specific spot.....unless you have taken apart an engine you will be lost in this book often as in every chapter. I do find the book helpful to better understand the mechanics of bikes but find it a struggle to read one time and understand without re-reading a Chapter or two over again. Many, many instances throughout the book where images and illustrations do not support the description or do so in a fashion that makes it difficult to the layman.

First I'm going to start with the reason I had to take a star off my ranking, because it's a big one. Maybe so big that removing just one star is over-generous: Allen Schoen is a proponent of a belief that attempts to connect consciousness with quantum mechanics. (Deepak Chopra believes this too, and it won him an Ig Nobel Prize.) This belief has a name: quantum mysticism, and it has been strongly objected to by the overwhelming majority of physicists from Einstein onward, who have described it as, among other things, "pseudo science","quackery" and "quantum flapdoodle." Quantum mechanics is, in reality, very dense, very difficult math, describing, specifically, the processes of subatomic particles. A superficial understanding of some of the theories derived from that math, coupled with a decades-long misapplication of those theories by secular mystics, has had a corrupting influence on people who have, perhaps with the best intentions, tried to find a hard-science foundation for some otherwise squishy thinking. When it comes to physics, quantum mystics know just enough to be dangerous. Or not even that much. I suspect Dr. Schoen, as a vet, would not look kindly on a physicist setting up shop as a veterinarian and proclaiming himself qualified to act and speak with authority on, say, colic surgery. I know as a horse owner I wouldn't want a physicist, not even Einstein, to perform surgery on my horse. It is best to be mindful of the limits of one's expertise. But one does not need to believe that quantum mechanics somehow underlies the truth that our beliefs, attitudes, feelings, and states of mind have impact on ourselves and those around us, including our horses. It's too bad Dr. Schoen chose to veer into such discredited territory, because it casts a dubious shadow over the reliability of the rest of his information and opinions. I happen to agree with the authors that adopting mindfulness is probably the single best thing members of the equestrian community can do for the horses in their care. And for themselves. As a long-term practitioner of meditation and many of the mindfulness techniques the book discusses, I like that the authors have presented them in a form that specifically relates to working around horses. I would hope that other, more "mainstream" equestrians would be introduced to these ideas, which they might otherwise have dismissed or not thought to apply in the riding arena. If you're looking for a typical how-to training or horse management book, this isn't it. This book addresses issues considerably more fundamental, but in some ways more abstract, to the nature of what it means to be a conscious human interacting with a radically different, but at the same time surprisingly similar, species. The two authors speak in individual voices, and I found myself resonating most with Gordon's (a retired rider and trainer) stories and insights while finding Schoen a little braggy and pseudo-shamanistic. But I still appreciated the book's primary focus: the critical need to get your own head and heart in order before setting foot in a barn. Both writers give concrete exercises for doing so. Buddhists are frequently quoted, and most of the meditations are modifications of Buddhist practices. This will bother that segment of the population who sees Eastern thought as offensive or threatening to the status quo, while deep practitioners may object to an element of "McMindfulness" which I would agree is there. At the other end of the spectrum, those who gobble up any trendy mystical claptrap will read with indiscriminate interest. If you find yourself in the middle of those extremes, I recommend you give the suggestions in this imperfect but interesting book a try. Take what's useful, but don't drink the Kool-Aid. Mindfulness has demonstrated benefits; it doesn't need to be a magic cure-all and there's no need to attach any crystal-waving sub-atomic chicanery to it.

It's been too long since Dr. Schoen's last book and now he comes forward with a 400 page book that dwarfs all other publications on caring for horses. In our overcrowded lives, how nice to be able to sweep aside the stacks of books piled on the shelves in the barn office and reach for one source of wisdom.

This book makes you think. It makes you think about everything you do with your horse. It reminds you how riding is a conversation and how important it is to ask not tell. It reminds you to listen to what your horse is telling you because they tell you so much. Everything in this book can be applied to dogs and really to your whole world. How you treat your horse is how you want others to treat you. Not to give anything away, we followed Willie through the book and the co-author spoke of the regret at the end. The point was well made although sad. An excellent book for horse people, dog people and really anybody.

I highly recommend this book for all who are involved in the horse industry including parents. The book embodies a much needed sentiment that will affect the hearts and minds of all readers in a life changing manner. Further, it provides typical scenarios, real life examples and practical application tips that are simple and easy to apply in a variety of circumstances. Encouraging mindful stewardship, love and compassion for all, the book makes a wonderful gift as well. It will be read and re-read by generations to come.

This is a terrific mystery and a very believable protagonist. This is for fans of Girl on a Train (altho much better) and Gone Girl. I thought I'd figured it all out but twists right up to the end

This kept me guessing right til the end. I had a hard time putting it down. Just when you think you know how it goes down something will make you question it. Definitely worth reading

I absolutely loved this book. There are a few grammatical errors along the way but overall a very fast read. I loved the characters and ended finishing this book in two days starting up late to do so. I love books that jump back and forth through time and this was a very easy book to follow as it did so.

Tell the Truth by Amanda Brittany is a thriller that deals in digging deep into the past to uncover secrets buried long ago. This means the format is one in which you have a current timeline and flashes back into the past to follow along together until they finally intertwine.The story centers around Rachel who is a psychotherapist who has her own issues in her life going on. Her husband has left her for another woman leaving her to raise her daughter now as a single mother and Rachel’s own mother is suffering from dementia and barely recognizes her.When Rachel makes an appearance on a local talk show a strange call comes through but as she tries to put that incident out of her mind Rachel then begins receiving friend requests on Facebook with ominous messages. Rachel knows the only way to figure this out is to dig deep into the past that her mother has refused to talk about and find out just what happened when Rachel was a child.I will admit that yet again we have an author who has come up with a great story but it took a while for me to settle into the book. The beginning of Tell the Truth jumps around times quite a bit and that held me back from becoming immediately immersed but as the book goes on it becomes much easier to follow and distinguish the characters from each era. I had my guesses going on as to how it would all turn out and while I was getting close the wrap up did elude me from completely figuring it all out which is always fun too.I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

The story starts out with a confession from an unidentified murderer, and then moves to Rachel being interviewed on live TV and a chilling call she receives on-air. We then meet her mum in flashbacks to 1987 and onward and discover more about Rachel, her mom and a bit of their background.Her mum, Laura is now in a care home for acute Alzheimer's and during one visit announces she needs to tell Rachel about things that happened in the past.This comment from her mum, combined with the strange phone call and then numerous Facebook friend requests from the murder victims the murderer confesses to in confessions between the story begin to weigh heavily on her. Added to that she is dealing with a break-up; being a single mom; dealing with her own sick mom - all these things leave her struggling to make sense of her life.All these strange requests plus baffling occurrences leave Rachel determined to discover what her mom is hiding - which in itself is an uphill task due to the extreme dementia.The flashbacks to 1987 onward with Laura plus the confessions from the unknown murderer gives the reader a bit of an inside track of events and allows you to develop your own theories with all the knowledge Rachel doesn't get.I moved through a couple of theories during the flow of this novel and even at about 65% of the way in, I wasn't sure which one was true and it turned out at the end most were way wrong!The book started off so slowly that I wondered what all the various narratives were about and how they would tie together and then they grabbed me! So then I had to sacrifice some sleep to see where they went.This was a brilliant read based upon what children remember from very young ages - what is real and actually remembered and what is made up or tweaked by what we were told by our parents and other important people in our lives.

Pretty good, but weird too. There is a creepy vibe throughout the entire story, lots of suspense. This story has a lot going on, so many twists. I read a review that said around the 80% completion the book has a reveal that should have ended the story and I somewhat agree. What came after that was shocking but so over the top that I think it took away from the story rather than add to it.Thanks to NetGalley, the author and HQ Digital for a copy in exchange for a review.

The woman and I chatted about the lack of good enough,often enough, is not practiced in our homes and schools, because we don't know how to do it in an intelligent respectful manner, really educating all who will hear,Important to avoid miserable lives of unwanted pregnancies…We talked about the best program we ever heard on Glee by a high school teacher…It was so good, it was like planning your own Birthday Party!!Then right beside me was this book and I opened it to to read about a Fan of Power, so good! I want to order several of this book to give to people I meet and care for!

This book opened my eyes to all the God winks I have experienced in my life. I first met my future wife at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I was running a marathon from the North Rim to the South rim. My two running partners asked me if I had ever seen Ribbon Falls, located 1/4 mile off the trail. I had not so they agreed we should take a detour to the falls. Upon arriving at the falls, a very pretty woman was standing up at the base of the falls.we chatted, she took a picture of us, and we continued our run.Six months later I had the urge to begin training for the Pikes Peak marathon. My training included running up what was then Squaw Peak in Phoenix. One of my training runs, I came up behind a woman who was walking, I could not pass her, so we began talking. She asked me if I ran this mountain often. I told her only when I was training for a marathon. She said she saw some guys running a marathon last October in the Grand Canyon, I mentioned that I was running a marathon in the Canyon lastOctober. At that point she looked at me and said, I have a photo of you in my Canyon photo album...at that point I realized we were experiencing a Godwink. The rest - - as they say - - is history.

I enjoyed reading the stories of other folks "God Winks" in this book. Several years ago I sat beside a woman on an airplane who was reading a newspaper from a city that my Grandmother, who was born in 1889 was from. We got to talking & in a very short time we discovered that her Grandfather was my Grandmother's Brother. After the trip we exchanged old photo's & family stories. I told a friend this story & she said that I had had a "God Wink". I treasure this. Janet

I could really relate to the stories because I know God has always been involved in significant events in my life but I did not always realize that until looking back at what had happened. This book was the first book I could not put down until I finished. It's an easy read and gave me peace. I can recognize God winks all the time now.

Given to me when my Father and Brother passed away, last year. I've paid it forward giving this, treasure of a book, to friends and family who has lost a loved one recently. Sometimes it takes a while to see the "winks" but they will come for you.

I have long subscribed to the belief that their are no coincidences, just occasions were God takes a hand and remains anonymous. Rushnell cites many personal encounters in this realm. I was not only enlightened by his sharing, he opened my eyes to even more such interventions in my day to day living. His writing style is breezy without being cute or trivial. The book affected my outlook on daily living. I will most surely reread it in the future so as not to lose the impact.

This is a fantastic inspirational collection of upbeat, true, short stories about how God is active in all lives, everyday, & in every way.It has made me more aware of how God has been active in my life at especially at crucial junctions in my life.It sure beats watching TV news, because it is true & uplifting.I've bought more than a dozen copies to give to Christians as well as folks that don't want to talk about religion.I plan on buying a lot more copies to give away this year at Christmas time & in the future.

This book was okay for me. I found it and chose to read it at a time when I was going through the death of a pet and trying not to dwell on wondering why it had to happen. The book is mostly a positive recounting of uplifting things that have happen when you least expect it, but need it. It did help me to recall moments in my life when I knew that I was experiencing something for a reason beyond the immediate moment. That did help me to get out of my own head and back to the day to day of life with a more positive outlook, regardless of the circumstance. If you need a little push to get you past the bumps in life, it can be a good book to pick up,read awhile, and get back into living life.

Not worth it. Very disappointed. Thin book with barely any info that you cant look up in 5 min online.

Direct and to the point. Dated but I did like the history lesson. Going down there in 2 days to see what it looks like.

This relocation guide to Grenada, one of the Windward Island nations of the Caribbean, is brief and to-the-point. I like that the authors do not waste my time. It was an easy read and got me the information I was looking for without any time or trouble at all.It includes the usual guide-book fare: where it is, how to get there, why I would want to live in Grenada, how much will it cost me in comparison to other places, etc. But, I also appreciate the important details such as what visas are available, how much do they cost, what documentation do I need to obtain a visa, and how do I submit my paperwork; as well as solid advice on needing a car (you don't) whether one should arrive on a visitor's visa (yes) before applying for residency, etc.Though this book was published on Amazon's Kindle in mid-December 2014, it was originally published elsewhere some years ago. I noticed that some of the text contains forward-looking statements indicating that certain things are to happen in 2008, etc. The manuscript obviously needs to be edited with an eye to those kinds of passages that leave a stale taste in the reader's mouth.Otherwise, I give it a solid four stars and recommend Grenada: Expatriate Relocation Manual to anyone with Grenada on his or her radar.

FIVE STARS: Like a Mix between a Lonely Planet Guidebook and a How-to-Relocate ManualI picked this book up as a free Kindle read and it was great! It's like a mix between a Lonely Planet Guidebook and a How-to-Relocate Manual.One of the co-authors wrote a similar book titled "TONGA: EXPATRIATE RELOCATION MANUAL" and that was even better as it combined a funny personal memoir feel to it, to go along with the guidebook and relocation manual feel. However, this Grenada book still gets 5 stars from me, even if the Tonga book was better :-)If you dream of escaping the rat race, retiring to an interesting country and want to know how to do so I would highly recommend reading this book!***** 5 STARS *****

Grenada is a small Caribbean country that I've had an interest in for a long time. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of info. online about Grenada, probably because it is not one of the busier resort or expat destinations. So I was pleased to find this eBook that focuses specifically and in some detail on life in Grenada.The authors have done a good job of giving an overview of what anyone can expect, in terms of moving there: documentation, daily life in Grenada, climate, geography, economy....that answered many of my questions.Unfortunately, since reading this and other articles about Grenada, I also found out about Grenada's ties with China. Apparently, China has provided millions of dollars in aid to Grenada, after they had hurricanes and resulting property damage there. A cricket stadium was one of these initiatives.This "partnership" continues to this day, with Grenada recently celebrating an anniversary of the Peoples' Republic of China, IE: communism in China. That to me is a deal breaker, in terms of consideration of Grenada as an expat option. Most unfortunate as other than that, Grenada seems to be a paradise in so many ways. But without a true "free" government with no ties to questionable allies, that is not worth much.
