I've been working in the classroom for nearly 20 years and I learned from this book. I've read it over and over. If you're teaching 3rd or above and want to wider and deepen your understanding of interactive/social learning read the preview on kindle and see if this book speaks to you. It has for me.

One of two books with a "Common Core" label that I have liked, this book balances theory and strategies to engage students in developing their academic language. This book is useful beyond the CCS and is congruent with sheltered instruction. This is a great resource for working with ELLs.

I highly recommend this book for all future and current teachers. I had to buy this for a class and I'm so glad it was on the required text list. Zwiers writes with humor that keeps your attention-- or reels you back in when your focus is fading. He presents teaching literacy in a way that is easily applied to teaching. Future students will benefit from teachers who have read this book.

As an EAL (ESL) teacher, this book is essential. It has become my bible for the classroom. It's loaded with practical information for teaching acadmic language, as well as strategies and activities. It's also a great resource for content-area teachers looking to provide more support for language learners. Very little theory, all application-- highy recommended.

Delightful assumption by Amazon that this is a work of fiction. I work on a fairly regular basis with early manuscripts, and I find this a good basic reference for assistance in identifying Gothic scripts, to the level that I need. There are more extensive treatises out there, but as a simple taxonomy this is ideal.

I love this book. Excellent resource book. I'm a student of medieval calligraphy and find this to be one of the best informational and technical resources available on the subject. I also can't read this book for more than 20 minutes at a time. Fantastic resource.

Simply an outstanding book in all respects. As a professional historian who majored in medieval and art histories, and as a calligrapher for over 20 years, this book will be useful to artists and historians alike. It explains very clearly the many nuances of "gothic" in both text and illustration. It is money well-spent!

Eactly what I was hoping for.

Great introduction to a variety of scripts that will be of use to beginners and advanced paleographers alike. Intelligently illustrated and well enough written to read straight through, but so sensibly organized that it makes a great reference work. Its intelligent use of the wealth of information provided in recent decades by the great catalogues of dated manuscripts will make it a standard work for years to come. My only possible reservation regards nomenclature. Derolez is a proponent of a modified version of the system of nomenclature advocated by Lieftinck and urges us not to use such standard terms as Gothic and Anglicana in the usual way. Since this is such a great book, it will strongly influence practice. Still readers might wish to take this recommendation with a pinch of salt.

The most detailed Latin paleography book I have. Good diagrams of each letter accompanied with detailed description. Very light on Spanish.

Recommended by expert professor for graduate level palaeography and textual criticism classes at Catholic University. Very helpful! I look forward to using it next semester.

I have read all of Ms. Neeley's book, and it is amazing how she brings her characters to life. You have no other choice but to love them. Orglo , is the last of his kind, he is exiled on a planet, but he needs a host to survive. Without a host he will die.Chloe is loner and has felt unloved or unwanted since she was a child. She has learned to fight Her own battles until her spaceship breaks down only to land on the same planet Orglo is on. Only instead of Orglo she befriends a cat.Will Orglo finally find his host? Will Chloe reject him? Who is Cat? You really need to read this short story and find out what happens. I highly recommend it.Warning: This is intended for mature audiences.

This extremely short story had so much potential to be so much more. This could have so easily have been a four or even a five star read if it had been a full book instead of such a short story. Such an intriguing concept. Unfortunately, since it was so short, there was no time to flesh out the characters so we could get to know them and feel some emotion for and about them. So, for what it was, I consider it a 3.1 star = awful! want my money back!2 stars = bad but not horrendous3 stars = decent/good4 stars = really good! will probably read again.5 stars = excellent! definitely recommend and will definitely read again!

*WARNING* contains explicit adult scenesI first came across this little story in an anthology and was delighted to find it had become it's own little thing. I can't see much of a change in the two, however I still like Orglo very much. Just imagine that sort a parasite attaching to you. I know I'd be up for it! This little story is creatively delightful.

A pretty good sci-fi type short story about making choices. I like Sandra Neeley for the simplicity of her characters and the way she quickly gets to the point of the story. This was especially good because it was short while being entertaining and still making you think. Would I? Could I make the same decision? Great story!

It's a great short story, very well written. Both characters are quickly, but well developed.Excellent, sweet romance read that made my day, and I'm going to place on my "must read again" collection.Awesome to take your mind off everyday matters.It's made me curious about other books from the author.

Chloe is alone, lonely, landing on an abandoned space station to repair her ship. She does find a bit of company - a cat...and so much more.I like this. It’s an interesting concept. I can understand the fear generated by a being that seems to be parasitic. Both Orlgo and Chloe are alone and needing something the other can provide. The telling of their story is delightful and I really didn’t want it to end so soon!

I liked the story a lot, the only thing negative was it's short. I am not a fan of books that are less than 100 Page's however I am a fan of this author's writing so I gave this book a chance which I'm happy I did I would recommend 👍

Very good short story. I’ve read many of Sandra Neeley’s other novels and loved them, so I know this short story would have been a great full length book in her capable hands. Fast and sweet read.

I had a lot of troubles reading this book. If it weren't required as part of a school assignment to read a book from an African country (of which I chose Swaziland), I definitely would not have been able to finish it. The main problem is that the narration is not consistent. Yes, it's a memoir from one point of view throughout the whole story, but the text is a boring recital of daily school-tasks in Swaziland. For people interested in Swaziland's more prominent cultural differences, you'll learn about them, but they'll be supplemented in between 20 pages of filler and non-concise writing. I feel as if Sarah felt obliged to write a 180 page novel on Swaziland because nobody else had, but to be completely honest, the story deserved only 100-120 pages. The second biggest problem is the editing... Constant typos, discontinuities, and malapropisms make the book difficult to take seriously. I don't know if it was translated from Swati language, but something went wrong.Don't get me wrong, the book wasn't all bad -- if it was it wouldn't have gotten 3 stars. Sarah Mkhonza does a fairly good job of conveying how school in Swaziland goes. Unspoken high school behaviours, cultural differences, and the interactions between student and professor are all very clearly highlighted, and those interactions comprise the main portion of the stories told. Being a Ph.D recipient, I can't immediately discount the book, and very quickly in, she sets up a beautiful metaphorical reflection of the locals' view on Swaziland. In the extended metaphor of "Weeding the Flowerbeds" throughout the story, I can only assume the line "I liked their rareness and hated their abundance" (Mkhonza 10) can only be in reference to the Swazi people and how they are too centralized within their own territory. Mkhonza's writing ability is obviously very strong, yet the story keeps her from displaying its full potential. There are sections, conveyed through Bulelo's thought, through which Mkhonza speaks directly to the reader, and some of the thoughts are fairly profound -- not just for a young Swazi girl.If you're looking for some cultural incite on Swaziland and don't mind skimming through unnecessary text, this book does a fairly good job.

As I continue my around the world in reading travels, I've found it harder and harder to find books for some of the more random countries. Swaziland is one of those countries - no, not Switzerland (I swear, I can spell), but Swaziland, a small country in southern Africa. But when I was browsing other blogs, I found someone else doing an around the world challenge and she also read this book as part of her challenge. It wasn't an easy book to find (I eventually had to cave and buy it from Amazon), but it was an interesting read.A fictionalized memoir of three girls in a church run boarding school, it details their adventures over several years, as they progress through the levels prior to graduation. I liked the idea of the book, however, to me the execution was lacking. There was quite a bit of redundancy in the writing (repeating the same information in multiple places in the same chapter) and some times where what is being said is contradicted in the next paragraph (for example, in one paragraph she is doing push-ups, then talking about how she did the best in that set of sit-ups and then back to talking about push-ups). I think this is something that a good editor could have fixed - but as the author is a professor herself, I don't know how much it was edited prior to release. I do find it interesting that there are very few reviews for the book out there (zero on Amazon, 1 on goodreads - aside from mine).I think this is a good read if someone is interested in learning about life in the smaller African countries and the role that the various religious organizations have played in the developing nations. however, because of issues that I had with it, I can't give it more than 2.5 stars, but rounding up to 3 for amazon.

I had to buy a used hard copy to be able to read them.Let me start off simple: I genuinely enjoyed reading The Change Monster. Ok, now that we have that out there, please allow me to explain. Jeanie's book is vastly different from the other books on change management I have read so far. The Change Monster is not a how-to, step-by-step manual on how to slam home a win for any company undergoing change. It's more of a memoir of the good, bad, and ugly side of change she faced while living as a change consultant for the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).Thankfully, it's a much more than a memoir. The second half of the title tells you exactly what it is about: the human forces that fuel or foil corporate transformation and change. It's about the people side of change, not the Gantt Chart side of change management. If what you seek is a flow chart, put the book down and look elsewhere.In The Change Monster, the author shares her five-step process flow with us as both a foundation and roadmap for her methodology. She calls it "The Change Curve" which, coincidentally, is the outline for the book. The phases are: Stagnation, Preparation, Implementation, Determination, and finally Fruition. Anyone who has participated in a major transformation will easily understand and appreciate her terms. Each phase is clearly described, with multiple examples of people (remember, it's about the people) in companies struggling well, and not so well, move forward, stall, go backwards, survive, or quit altogether and revert to their old systems.I perceived no arrogance on the part of the author and found her to be humble in her storytelling - she shares much about her failures and missteps. I have never met Jeanie Duck, but after reading her book I imagine she's a great person, someone I'd certainly like to know. She seems very personable, professional, and interesting. Not sure if my perception is accurate, but that's how she comes across in the book.In addition, at no point did I perceive this to be plug for BCG services. In fact, throughout the book I thought she was extremely generous in her ideas, strategies, and tips for how to work with people through the change process. She gives a lot of insight away that anyone could test in their business; the book is jam-packed with great lessons she learned over the years.Regarding change, some make it. Most do not. The consensus is that ERP/CRM change initiatives have a 70-80% failure rate. Even when you hire a BCG, McKinsey, IBM, etc. Insane, right? And yet we still trudge forward in our need to stay ahead (or catch up) to our competition. So if we know we must constantly move forward AND we know that our chances of success are really low, isn't the best strategy to learn from others mistakes and not make the same ones? That's wisdom. This book has a lot of it. Read The Change Monster if you want a higher chance of success in your initiative. Couple it with other great resources, including Jeff Hiatt's book ADKAR (they map well together), and you will have a strong understanding about the people side of change. Highly recommended!

Jeanie's dissected testimonials provide a straightforward game board map that can be easily identified in one's own enviornment. Her nuggets of practical advice are useful tools to anticipate and prepare strategies for guiding our teams through the change monster's turbulent waters.

This book is great! It is easy to read and understand. It really helps you with the changes you might need to make in your organization and figure out why people act the way they do. This will prepare you for these reactions and how to handle them.

First, this book lists all the author's successes in great detail, but wants to only provide wooly and rather meaningless references to her failures or those clients who are hopeless. Where is the point in that - how can we learn from faults and her insights on poor strategies that we cannot cross reference to our own experience of these firms.Second, the first 40 or so pages are good - stagnation area is very good - but the rest is her successes without much value being added to the reader looking for wisdom.

The author presents a five-stage framework for dealing with change called the "change curve." This change curve is designed for understanding and managing the human element of the change process. The five-stage process is as follows:· Stage 1: Stagnation. This is the time that the organization can be depressed or demoralized. There is a general slowness, difficulty in making decisions, and a general lack of motivation.· Stage 2: Preparation. Leaders of the change must accomplish the aligning and energizing of management around the corporate strategy and vision; articulating and detailing the plan; and generating a healthy dissatisfaction with the ways things are allowing for a genuine appreciation for change to come from within the workforce· Stage 3: Implementation. Here the leader's ability to manage the expectations, experience and energy of the company is critical to the success of the implementation. The author recommends four methods to start this phase: test and deploy, build behavior first, use attraction to convert, and plan replication.· Stage 4: Determination. This phase, marked with conflicts, clashes, failures, and minor successes, is only as successful as the degree to which top management stays involved and focused.· Stage 5: Fruition. This stage is when the change is in place. This is a time to reward employees for their hard work. The company needs to move forward to avoid re-entering a period of stagnation.

A fantastic graphic novel focused on an artist and his encounter with a dom/sub couple. I absolutely adore this book because it positively, and realistically, portrays bi/pan, polyamorous/polysexual, and dom/sub relationships&dynamics. Not only that, but the art style is gorgeous, and there is a great plot/story behind it. Can't forget to mention the smut- an honestly gross looking action is made beautiful in this art style. Another amazing Iron Spike book! Overall, I highly recommend this book. (to adults)

Gorgeously illustrated, great to read, fun and sexy. My only real issue was the continued shipping delay, which was postponed twice. Overall a great bit of fun and a sexy afternoon read, if a touch light on substance in a few spots.

There aren't enough poly-friendly comics out there, let alone ones with two men. Yes, Roya is a masterpiece of pacing, and the artwork in every scene is sublime (even in the non-sexy scenes). Trotman writes a believable, simple, and easy poly relationship that is frankly inspiring.

I really enjoyed this book! It had been on my wishlist for a while, but the Oh Joy, Sex Toy review pushed me to finally order it. The stinger at the end brought it up from "good" to "great." I've been recommending it to all of my friends~

Aside from being REALLY good smut, Yes, Roya is also a very well put together comic. With some well established pacing, strong characters, and some delightfully stimulating sex scenes that propel the plot forward and serve as an integral part to the development of the characters, Yes, Roya is the full package!

Lots of historic touches for the midcentury fan. Plus, feminist bits. And sex.

It's got the right amount of story and naughty things. The art is amazing and you can really feel for the characters. I hope to see more from these people!
