This is a good book if you're looking for an overview of Tesla and Edison but it doesn't go into as much detail as other books on the two inventors.

Good comparison between the two

Someone once said that honesty is the best policy. I’ll admit I knew very little about Tesla. But, after reading this book, now I know much more about the man . The Captivating History Series just gets better each week.The number of patents Tesla had is just astronomical. The feud with Edison seemed to be kinda friendly in a way but both men helped to make the country better electrical wise so to speak. Also , Tesla being from Croatia proved the worth of immigrants playing a significant role in American inventions . As a side note Patriots coach Bill Belichick ancestry is from Croatia.A very remarkable man Tesla was .So , if you want to know more about this man & his with then this is the book for you. Once again, kudos to the Captivating History staff on providing quality books filled with so much information.

This book starts with "The War of the Currents." It explains about Nikola Tesla and his fight to have AC, alternating current, be the standard in America. While Thomas Edison was in favor of DC, direct current. It was interesting to find out that Nikola was actually hired by Thomas in 1882 to repair DC electrical systems for Continental Edison in Strasburg and Paris.It was interesting to learn about each of their childhoods. I didn't remember that Nikola Tesla was born in Croatia and immigrated to the United States. It was very surprising to me how much he had learned, what he created and the inventions that he improved. A family history was given for Thomas Edison that was completely unknown to me.It took me several hours to read this book. I really enjoyed reading about how much both of these men advanced technology through their lives.Buy this book, you won't regret it!

The comparison between Edison and Tesla was amazing. Edison was more of an idea man and Tesla was a genius. Just the difference in their thought process was astounding. Tesla was brilliant and Edison was a hack.

An exceptional book about two famous men - Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison. This book should be required reading in the school system.

I read the first few chapters and removed it from device. I have no idea if it is true or not. If it is the authorities should be taking action . ButI don't have the patience to do it

I must admit, I watch Nancy Grace; however, there are MANY times I disagree with what she says and/or how she says it. I stumbled across this book while searching for one of hers and figured why not. The author starts the book off strong with many valid reasons as to why he feels the way he does. Toward the middle of the book; however, the tone changes and he becomes downright "hateful" toward her and her audience to the point where it's offensive. The end of the book came together nicely though and viewed the world from another perspective. It's a decent book, but if you're the kind of person who does not like to view the world from every aspect, this book definitely is not for you.He often describes his intense hatred for Nancy, which is fine since we are all entitled to our own opinion, but the tone goes from disapproval to a downright witch hunt. Some of the accusations or inferences are pretty far fetched and had to be greatly stretched and twisted, yet some of them are pretty understandable. I appreciated his views on modern media, but at times he has a rather misogynic tone in his constant referal to her viewers as "sad", "lonely", or "bored" housewives, almost giving off the impression that he feels threatened by powerful women and must belittle them into a rather 1950's gender role. He makes a few remarks about how men tend to dislike her and the women who do like her are "bored housewives", but the tone is very condescending (whether he means to or not, it sounds like it). Along with the changing tone comes many grammar errors and mispelled words. I did find myself wondering if he was really shining light on the situation or if he was just bitter after being wronged by the justice system.All-in-all, the book is decent if you're hunting for interesting facts, but littered among them are a few out-there suggestions. If you want to check this book out, by all means go ahead, just remember it is only one man's opinion and you can't really hate him for expressing his views, but you MUST be able to stomach his tone.

Hateful writing. I did not even read the entire book. This person obviously has a hate of Nancy and spews negativity. I would give it a 1. It is a negative 1

I have to admit that I agree with much of what the author says. Sometimes it does begin to feel like it is a bit personal for him, but the essence of what he says rings true for me. Admittedly I believe Nancy Grace is a person which is interested only in self promotion and wealth building and who has no qualms with assaulting the character of anyone at all to achieve those ends. Some of the personal insults on her hair style for instance, while amusing in a adolescent way, are unnecessary and probably serve to discount the otherwise valid and reasonable points the author makes about the media persona of Nancy Grace. In the end your enjoyment of this book will depend on your existing opinion of Nancy Grace before you read it. If you tend to find agreement with her, you will dislike this book. If on the other hand you find her to be a distasteful opportunist, you will find agreement with the points presented. For the low asking price it's entertaining either way.

This review is intended to be a review of THIS BOOK and not an invitation to be attacked by other readers who do not agree with my opinion, as has happened several times in the recent past. If you want to post a review of the book and its contents, please do your own, because any attacks on my comments do not help other readers learn what's in the book or help them decide if whether or not they want to read it.Nancy Grace is definitely not my favorite person because she is much too rude for my taste, and anybody who agrees to be a guest on her show has to be nuts because the way she treats most of them is downright inexcusable. Don't get me wrong, I sympathize with her over the devastating loss of her fiancé because I have no doubt it almost destroyed her life. But I think she does goes overboard with the "being a crime victim" thing because she manages to bring that out every chance she gets. But for goodness sakes, it gets pretty bad when I feel I have to write a review to give other readers my personal opinion to warn them that rather than this being an informative read, this book is unmitigated venom, pure and simple. The author, for the most part, made this book a "tar and feather" witch hunt against Grace. Granted, I very often don't agree with her, and for that matter, I seldom watch her program. However, I got really sick of his REPEATED defense of the murdering, YES MURDERING, Casey Anthony. And how dare he be so condescending about elderly people and "bored, shop all day housewives"! I can't even count the number of times he made nasty comments about "housewives" and all the unfavorable adjectives he used to describe them. He comes across as a pompous jerk who has disdain for ladies in general, and housewives in particular, because he obviously perceives them as stupid and detests them as much as he hates her because they choose to watch her program. He really goes over the edge in stating that "there's a possibility" she has been "directly involved" with the death of her own fiancé (?? - can't fathom whatever led him to that conclusion), the suicide of Melinda Duckett (he calls her Melissa on the page where he makes these accusations but the name is Melinda) & the death of the Ricci guy in the Elizabeth Smart case. Maybe it's just my opinion, but I think that's taking things a little too far. I bought this book because I was curious about what he had to say, but I never expected it to be what I've described above. Waste of money for me.

I can't even give this one star. The author was repetitive saying the the same things many times. I couldn't finish it. It felt like the author was whining. I wasted my money!

This book is about someone who has a vendetta to prove and he did it in this book. I couldn't wait for it to end. Normally, I don't want books to end but this was the first book I've read that absolutely said he was trying to prove how much he can't stand her and he definitely did. I wish I had read the review before I purchased this book.

This is an excellent book for anyone wanting to cook Malaysian food at home. The author is passionate about her work, and it shows in the quality of this book and the fact that the recipes are both delicious and well-suited to the home cook. Highly recommended.

Nice pictures, nice overview of spices and techniques in the beginning. Still searching for recipes for my fav dish from my local Malaysian restaurant (chicken with mango)

Easy to follow recipes, and the cuisine is an interesting blend of Chinese, Thai, and Indian flavors. What's not to like?

This sumptuous book unlocks the many mysteries of SE Asian cooking. If you've often wondered about how to achieve the complexity of flavors that is the hallmark of this regional cooking-- savory, sweet, spicy and salty-- and "The Malaysian Kitchen" will answer all your questions. It starts with an excellent primer on individual spices: their source, uses and health benefits. But then Christina presents the reader with 150 easy-to-follow recipes that you might have though were only available in Malaysia or restaurants. I have lived in SE Asia and thought I knew the regional cooking. But I was only play acting at it until I met Christina Arokiasamy through her wonderful cookbooks. Now I prepare Malaysian Laksa and mango salad like a local.

I suppose I should not have expected more but it basically just covers one project and is not very dynamic. I don't know how much the information provided will transfer to other projects. Unless you love Lucchesi's work or something I would find a different resource, still OK for the price I got it used.

I really enjoyed this book. The book itself is sturdy with a glossy cover and back. If I had wanted a "how to" about sculpture, I'd probably feel differently. I was just curious and wanted to learn more about the steps and how some things are done. It goes through 216 steps, a smaller black and white photo for each. There are six larger photos of the completed bust at the end of the book, and various pictures of other sculptures in the beginning. Though it's only telling you what he is doing, not telling you what to do and how to do it.As long as you're purchasing this book to see how this particular artist, Bruno Lucchesi, sculpts a face, then I'm sure you'll be pleased. However, if you want a step by step guide teaching you how to sculpt a face this is probably not the book for you. I would still recommend it for any adult simply curious about sculpture in general.

I read this book incredibly fast because it is just pictures and descriptions of what a sculptor is doing. It doesn't explain why things are done, it just says what was done; very frustrating. I am a little familiar with sculpting and this book doesn't address much, if any, about the benefit of skeletal and muscle structure, which I think would be misleading for very many newer sculptors looking for direction. Likewise, the artist does several steps that I don't think worked out and were fixed with later steps. I really don't think the person writing the book really understood what the sculptor was doing.

Great pictures - how to illustrations

Even after all these years, Bruno's book still holds up as one of the best. I've had to purchase this book more than once over the last 20 years. It tends to walk out of my studio and never returns.

I like to follow the steps,this book is very usefull for the beginners.It explains very detailed.I will try do a portrait with it.

I absolutely love this book. As a beginner in sculpturing, the instructions and the photos provide very clear directions. Another student in my sculpturing class, also liked the book and purchased it.

I like the book, gives step by step, on what it takes to sculpt a head in clay. Great price! Would buy again. Received in good time.

Dr. Clare McAndrew is a cultural economist, investment analyst, and published author. Clare completed her PhD in economics at Trinity College Dublin in 2001, where she also lectured and taught economics for four years. This is a fabulous description of the fine art industry. Professor McAndrew has prepared a very thorough description of the economics of art.Be forewarned. The players in this industry do not like investors.If you plan on collecting art as an investor you will need the background information and studies Clare offers. What a great read! The chapter outlines and content provide the "need to know" material in a digestible format.This is a book that you will be a "go to" over and over again. And, each of the subject matter experts are accessible.Dr. McAndrew's 1st chapter "An Introduction to Art and Finance" brings it all together.....what a great lead-in for Chapters 2 - 12.

Complete, comprehensive, dry: Especially good for collectors and artists. Tax and donation details are particularly helpful. (and four more words)...

I paid $24 for this book and my expectations were high. The content was just average and there is not alot of detailed information for the price i paid its not worth it.I feel ripped off.

Alas, I found the writing turgid, hard to follow. I kept it on my nightstand for weeks without wanting to read more of this book. It's finally shelved and I hope to get to it eventually since I'm interested in Fine Art and High Finance.
